Norwest Recruitment is partnering with a highly regarded and progressive public sector organisation to recruit an experienced Principal Solicitor for a six-month fixed term contract.
This is a rare opportunity for a senior legal professional to lead complex legal matters, provide strategic advice to executive stakeholders and play a key role in supporting organisational governance, risk and decision-making.
About the Opportunity Reporting to a senior executive, you will be responsible for delivering high-level legal advice across a broad range of matters while leading and mentoring legal professionals within a collaborative and high-performing team.
You will act as a trusted adviser to senior leadership, ensuring legal risks are appropriately managed and that the organisation continues to operate within a robust governance framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic, practical and commercially focused legal advice to executive leadership.
- Manage complex legal matters including litigation, statutory interpretation, contracts, governance and regulatory issues.
- Lead, mentor and develop members of the legal team.
- Manage external legal providers where required.
- Draft, review and negotiate complex legal documentation.
- Identify legal and organisational risks and provide practical solutions.
- Support organisational compliance with relevant legislation and governance obligations.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders while delivering exceptional client service.
To be successful, you will bring:
- Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner with a current practising certificate.
- Significant post-admission experience in government, local government or a large complex organisation.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex legal matters across multiple areas of law.
- Strong leadership capability with experience mentoring or managing legal professionals.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with sound commercial judgement.
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
