About the Role
A well-established and growing construction business is looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join its finance team. The role will initially focus on payroll processing during a system implementation and automation phase. Over time, the payroll process will become more streamlined, making this a great opportunity to be part of an important transformation.
With a workforce of 100+ employees across NSW and QLD, under complex EBA agreements, attention to detail and a strong understanding of award interpretation are essential. Experience with construction awards or similarly complex EBAs will be highly valuable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process weekly payroll, including manual calculations for redundancies, entitlements, and resignations.
- Ensure compliance with EBA conditions, overtime, RDOs, penalties, and allowances.
- Export payroll data from Deputy to MYOB and complete pay runs.
- Work within a changing payroll environment, as systems and processes are improved and automated.
- Maintain payroll records and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy in superannuation and payments.
- Communicate with site managers and employees to resolve payroll queries.
- Assist with end-of-financial-year payroll updates, including tax table and EBA increases.
- End-to-end payroll experience (100-150 employees preferred).
- Construction, union, or complex EBA payroll exposure (highly regarded).
- Strong Excel & Google Sheets skills (pivot tables a plus).
- High level of adaptability, patience, and resilience to navigate the system implementation phase.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines, and handle competing priorities.
- A resilient communicator who can provide professional payroll support to employees.
- Be part of an exciting payroll transformation —help shape new processes.
- Supportive, vibrant finance team in a collaborative open-plan office.
- Work-life balance with flexible start and finish times.
- Direct impact —not just a cog in the machine, but an opportunity to own your function.
- Social culture with monthly team events, office lunches, and end-of-year celebrations.
- Long-term stability in a growing business with opportunities for professional development.
